Release Day BlitzREVIEW:

This is slightly different from the usual romantic teenage angst that Monica Murphy does so well. We have all the same ingredients teenage girls arguing about boys, and the ability to get into the teenage girls mind. Which as a former bitchy drama queen I recognise it well.
Among all this we find have a killer targeting the elite most popular girls belonging to The Larks a group most aspire to belong to.
This is a tour de force from Miss Murphy having the POV from Penny one of the Larks, and the unknown killer to build the story to a dramatic conclusion. This book was consumed in one bite as I had to know who the killer was. The book leads us to an unexpected conclusion. All I can say is where is the next book?
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review

That’s challenge enough, but on the eve of battle, Elea realizes that her true enemies may be far more powerful than even Viktor: The deities Oni and Yuri could be out to destroy her as well. With major battles brewing on two fronts, Elea’s not sure that she’ll win, but with true love to inspire her, she’s certainly ready to fight.

REVIEW:

I don’t know how Christina Bauer manages to do it, I have been hooked on the Angelbound Series, and then I discovered this series. It seems I’ve waiting ages for this book I just couldn’t see how it was going to be resolved. As always nothing is ever easy for our kickass heroine. I thought she had Rowan and the casters now, that’s too easy for Elea.
As always they have a great cast of characters that have appeared through the books in the Series. Also a visit from vindictive Victor put in his usual appearance trying to take over the worlds.
I did love Rowan’s little brother Jicho, and his magic ship. This book was a compelling read, if you have never read this series, I really recommend it, as Christina always develops such rich worlds with great characters. Even the baddies are inventive with their schemes. I was very happy with the outcome, and we ended on a happy note. As always it was feast for the brain, and gives the imagination at a FIVE Star work out.

Eden:

Josh Evans and I have been best friends forever. He knows all my secrets, and I know all of his. So when he randomly asks me to help him lose his virginity, I sort of flip out. That’s a question that sends your mind to places you’ve seriously never considered before. Like, you know. Having sex. With your best friend. Except Josh doesn’t want to have sex with me—he wants me to help him find a girl. A nice girl who’s funny and smart and cute. Except he already knows a girl just like that…

Josh:

Eden Sumner is my best friend. So of course she’d be the person to help me find my perfect match, so I can drop my V card before I head off to college. Except the more we search, the more I realize that maybe the right girl has been by my side all along. I don’t need Eden’s help in finding me a girl to love. I’m pretty sure I’m already in love with Eden. But now she thinks I’m only after one thing…with anyone but her.

REVIEW:

Whenever I read a Monica Murphy YA story, I always find myself back in my 18 yrs. old mind.
I loved both characters Joshua and Eden, who have been best friends for years, all that changes when Josh ask her to find a girl to lose his virginity too. It was a good switch being a boy needing help and still being a virgin.
All the talk of sex made them look each other differently. I found them so cute together, it seems like they were the only ones who didn’t realise what was happening between them. I loved the other best friends Molly and Abraham they were so funny.
Monica’s knack is that it all seems so realistic, not all the made up with all the stars and music fading.
I would happy letting my teenage daughter read this and enjoy as much as I did.

REVIEW

Angelbound starts as Myla and Lincoln are on their last night of their Honeymoon when Lincoln is whisked away by black magic by an evil Thrax called Ethan.
I was looking forward to this book, and it didn’t disappoint. Action packed from start to finish. Most of the action taking place on earth, at La Guardia Airport. My god he was so evil with all the black magic.
Myla was minus Lincoln for most of the book, we also saw a more mature Myla, thinking before killing. It was nice to see Cissy and Zeke always there when Myla needs them. Myla is a superb character I just love her snark and internal monologues.
Lincoln and Myla have grown into their roles as King and Queen of the Thrax. I loved the whole book, and couldn’t put it down, much to the annoyance of my husband. This Series goes from strength to strength with the characters growing with this superb Series.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest exchange.

EXCERPT:

The fire crept across the floor, devouring paper and carpet, gaining momentum as it spread. A thick, black smoke filled the room, rolling over itself like a storm cloud, ravenous flames growling hungrily as they climbed. A moment later, there was another sound: a deep, drum-like thudding, barely audible above the burning tempest. A lower section of the shelf separated from the wall, and a row of hard covers slapped the floor. More books cascaded to the carpet, and a groping hand emerged.
The girl coughed violently, retching as she labored to breath amid the thickening blanket of smoke. She squeezed out from behind the book case, reaching back to pull a duffel bag from the cavity, pushing aside the dish, cup, and utensils her father had cast into the void in the rush to hide her. The bag held provisions, preparations made for a day they prayed would never come.
Making sure her vidlink was in her pocket, she lifted the hood of her sweatshirt and with eyes clenched shut, crawled across the floor, dragging the duffel bag. Scalding heat seared her throat as she gasped for air, her face and hands feeling like they were on fire. Gulping a mouthful of acrid smoke, an intense wave of nausea washed over the girl, and she fell against the wall of books. She was helpless now, certain she was going to die.
As the firestorm raged, her mind floated away from the horror. She was a young child again, sitting on her father’s lap, following his finger as it traced words on the page. She giggled and squirmed with excitement as the story unfolded, peeking ahead, eager to find out how the tale would end. Her mother leaned toward her from the adjacent chair, her smiling face awash in the light of the reading lamp. This is our secret, Arti. You can’t tell anyone. She could hear herself answer, I promise.
When the story was done, she reached across with her tiny hand and closed the book’s cover. She smiled up at her parents expectantly, waiting to say the ritual words together. And they lived happily ever after.
From somewhere in the cloud of her delirium, Arti Penderhagen heard the books on the shelves call to her, drawing her back to the present. Words echoed from their pages, guiding her hand along their bindings, showing her the way out.

EXCERPT:

Ramus stared blankly at the prostitute’s beckoning hand. The girl flexed her fingers, as though trying to conjure money from his pockets.
“I’ll do anything you ask if the price is right.”
Valkyrie reached across Ramus and pushed the girl’s hand away, saying, “He’s not interested, thank you.”
The girl narrowed her eyes. “I think he can answer for himself, honey.”
“And his answer is no, sweetie.”
Indignant, the girl turned her attention back to Ramus. “Listen, if you want to hire me you have to leave these three out of it.” She gestured to Valkyrie, Remiel, and me, her nose wrinkled. “There’s a place down on Furnace Street we can use for the night. Real cheap—I know the owner.”
Ramus wasn’t listening—his eyes were fixed on the rearview mirror. A gunshot ripped through the air. Remiel squealed and grabbed my arm again.
Ramus turned the key, and the cab sputtered back to life. “Time to go!”
“What was that?!” the prostitute shrieked.
Valkyrie reached over Ramus, grabbed the girl by the arms, and yanked her through the open window. She was just thin enough to fit, and she landed unceremoniously on Ramus’s lap. Her knee crashed into his groin, and he let out a pained yelp. Valkyrie pulled her again so she was sprawled on his lap instead.
“What are you doing!?” she howled as Ramus jammed his foot on the gas.
“It’s called saving your life, and you’re welcome!” Valkyrie snapped.
The girl let loose a series of vulgar curses as Valkyrie shoved her into the backseat between Remiel and me. The sickening scent of flowery perfume and smoke assaulted my nose. “Let me out of here!” she yelled.
“So you can get shot? No chance!” Valkyrie fired back, though he added in a low, irritated growl, “But it’s very tempting…”
“It was probably just a car backfire!” She reached over me, groping for the door handle. I was too stunned to stop her, even though I would be the one in danger of falling out of the cab if she succeeded.
Another gunshot rang out somewhere behind us. The girl screamed and jerked back into her seat.
“Drive faster!” she ordered.
We rocketed off into the murky evening. The girl dug her fingernails into my arm—much sharper than Remiel’s—but I was too scared to ask her to release me.
